bb’s cafe brews up $65,000 prize giveaway

bb’s cafe will give away over $65,000 worth of free food and drink to its customers this month, as part of a new interactive advertising campaign designed to reward its customers.

The campaign, developed by Oxygen Interactive Marketing, will run from 20 June to 31 July and will operate across 60 bb’s stores throughout Australia and New Zealand.

As part of the promotion, customers who spend over a certain amount in a single transaction will receive a scratch card and the chance to win a share of $65,000 in bb’s cafe prizes.

Customers could also win $1,000 cash online by going to bb's cafe's website and entering the card’s unique code.

bb’s cafe marketing manager Brooke Daley said customers have a one in five chance of winning instantly.

“In the current economic climate, shoppers are conscious of getting more bang for their buck. bb’s cafe’s new Win Your Share of $65,000 promotion offers our customers an incentive for choosing bb’s as their local cafe,” she said.

“Whether you want something quick and fresh, or if you want to sit down and have a premium coffee while we make your lunch - bb's cafe offers the ultimate break from shopping.”

“Enjoy some of our freshly baked muffins with a perfect espresso from our signature blend, sample one of our specialty Panini breads or indulge in some of our fresh sweet treats.”

“We also use only the finest, freshest ingredients at bb’s cafe, which means our meals are just like home cooking, using recipes like mum used to use.”

Instant Win items include: Small Coffee, Small Tea, Regular Iced Chocolate or Iced Coffee, Regular Muffin, Scone, Regular Milkshake, 50ml Sassy Syrup, Cupcake, Arnott’s Mint Slice and Arnott’s Premier Melting Moments.

There are 60 bb’s cafes operating across Australia and New Zealand, employing over 500 staff and serving over 2.5 million cups of coffee a year.

The bb’s cafe franchise network is owned and managed by Retail Food Group (RFG), a leading Australian retail food brand manager and franchisor.  RFG is the franchisor and intellectual property owner of the Donut King, bb’s cafe, Brumby’s and Michel’s Patisseries systems.

'Future looks good' for retailers
- June ARA Australian Retailers Index released this week

In new research released this week, the ARA Australian Retailers Index revealed a 24 percent jump in confidence among SME retailers over the past quarter, with confidence rising to its highest level since August 2008.

Australian Retailers Association Executive Director Richard Evans said confidence among retail SMEs reached positive 18 percent and reflected the sector's optimistic outlook for the months ahead.

"There is a definite feeling of optimism this quarter with retailers telling us the 'future looks good', reflecting the rise in consumer sentiment and aligning with expectations of improved retail trade growth by the September quarter," Evans said.

"With consumer confidence rising, retail sales performance also increased four percent to negative 14 percent. Expectations for continued sales growth jumped 40 percent to a balance of six percent, further cementing the sector's positive outlook for improved growth in the coming months.

"Other reasons retailers gave for improved confidence included that their businesses were established and experienced and their pricing was competitive. Other retail SMEs noted they had been able to find opportunities in the current economic downturn, with their products being more popular for consumers who were decreasing their spend.

"Adding to retail confidence was improved support for the Federal Government with the three percent approval rating up eight percent from the previous quarter.

"Retailers said they were feeling the benefit of the Federal Government's economic stimulus package and they were also supportive of the 50 percent tax rebate for small business investments announced as part of the Federal Budget.

"However, there were still 25 percent of retailers who believed the Federal Government's policies worked against small business with a feeling there was too much bureaucracy related to retail operations," Evans said.

The Australian Retailers' Index analyses the Sensis® Business Index results for businesses in the retail sector, providing a snapshot of the retail sector every quarter in the following categories: retailer confidence; retailer concerns; sales, profitability and employment; capital expenditure; wages and prices and assessment of Federal Government policies.

For over 105 years, the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) has been the peak industry body in Australia's $292 billion retail sector which employs over 1.5 million people. As an incorporated employer body under the Workplace Relations Act and with a range of member services including business consulting, policy development, advocacy and education, the ARA promotes and protects over 5000 independent and national retailers throughout Australia. Advertising Opportunities - 2009

30% of new franchisees recruited online

Results from a Franchisor Expansion Study by 10 Thousand Feet into the Australian franchising industry reports the following:

  • Just 10 per cent of Australian franchisors reported negative growth in 2008

  • Despite this, the $40 million plus franchisors spend on marketing each year to attract new franchisees will be significantly cut in 2009

  • Newspaper ad revenues will be one of the areas to suffer most, with just 11 per cent of new franchise leads generated through this medium in 2008 – down from 18 per cent in 2007.

In contrast, online and word of mouth recruitment strategies are set to grow with 29 per cent of new franchisees were recruited via word of mouth in 2008, and 30 per cent of new franchisees recruited

via online avenues!

TRIOS – HOT OFF THE INTERNATIONAL PRESS

Australian franchise, Trios, has been enjoying some international press coverage, so we thought we would share a news story review plucked hot off the press in Houston, Texas:

“This is really a first for the U.S. and the first in Houston,” says Na Chan, general manager of Trios Downunder. “It is a franchise that was started by three brothers in Australia. It’s flavorful but healthy fast food made with laffé, an Australian flat bread which we make into wraps. We also serve salads and spuds. We source only local products and use only 100 percent fresh ingredients. The group behind this venture is planning 15 more in Houston. They also own the rights to the franchises in the U.S. and China.”

We tried one of the falafel wraps with a hummus dressing, as well as a hot Portuguese chicken wrap and a chicken schnitzel spud, all of which were very tasty and, according to the in-store nutrition facts, quite healthy too.”

Franchisor pays for no discount rule

7-Eleven Japan has agreed to pay a percentage of its franchisees costs for expired food which needs to be thrown away.  The company had banned the discounting of items close to their used-by date and the payment was agreed to after the FTC in Japan warned the company that it should not stop its store operators from offering discounts.

FRANCHISING CODE OF CONDUCT OPTIONS PAPER OUT FOR COMMENT

As the next step in its response to the report of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services inquiry into franchising, the Government has released an options paper inviting final comment from relevant parties and the broader community.

The purpose of the options paper is to seek written comment on the amendments to the Franchising Code of Conduct discussed in the Joint Committee’s report.

The options paper builds on the consultation process undertaken to date and seeks new or additional information to that already provided in submissions to the Joint Committee.

This options paper requests comment against a series of very specific questions which clarify and fine tune the feedback we have received to date.

The Government is particularly interested in any potential change to the code that may affect costs and risks faced by franchisors and franchisees.

In order to keep the consultation process moving forward, any parties wishing to provide comment on some or all of the questions contained in the options paper are requested to do so by no later than close of business on 10 July 2009.
