The Reserve Bank of Australia has left official interest rates at the current 3.25 percent despite worsening economic conditions overseas. |
RBA governor Glenn Stevens said that "On the basis of currently available information, the Australian economy has not experienced the sort of large contraction seen elsewhere."
The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) said the Reserve Bank's decision to leave the cash rate unchanged at 3.25 percent signalled Australia's economic conditions were stabilising.

The administrators of collapsed electronics retailer Strathfield Group will seek legal advice about the former board’s decision to forgive a $5.5 million loan given to its founder, Andrew Kelly. Reports indicate that the loan was due to be repaid in January last year, but after Mr Kelly threatened legal action regarding the value of the value of his Strathfield shares (which he had used as collateral), the loan was forgiven.

A JB Hi-Fi store reportedly sold used mobile phones as new on not one, but two separate occasions. A complaint was made to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission after the consumer found contacts and video clips created by the phones' previous owners.

Corven, a Melbourne-based research and education consultancy, has launched its 2009 Insight Program for the franchise sector. In two separate streams, Insight 2009 will examine effective new franchisee preparation and the challenges of delivering training in franchise systems.
Insight 2009 is the first of Corven’s annual research programs for the franchise sector, combining findings from Insight Forum events and online survey results. Beginning in March, Insight 2009 forum events will be held around Australia.
