Small treats and value meal deals top menu for consumers in 2009

 

 

Food retailers need to ensure they satisfy consumers’ appetite for affordable treats and value meal options as the current economic downturn continues to bite, Retail Food Group CEO Tony Alford will tell a national business conference on the Gold Coast today (10 February).

 

Franchisees from Donut King, Brumby’s Bakeries, Michel’s Patisserie and bb’s café stores across Australia will attend the three-day conference, being held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. The four retail food franchise systems are owned by Gold Coast-based and ASX-listed company Retail Food Group Limited (RFG).

RFG CEO Tony Alford said the four retail brands experienced robust trade in November and December 2008, but could not be complacent in the challenging retail environment which will prevail throughout 2009.

 

 

“Research supports out position that consumers are increasingly budget-conscious and demand a memorable retail experience if consumer loyalty is to be retained,” he said. 

“While Australians may be decreasing the purchase incidence of large ticket discretionary items, consumers will still seek to reward themselves with treats like donuts, coffee and cake.

“Australians are also increasingly demanding affordable and healthy meal options like breads, quiches and sandwiches.

“There is also a trend for more home dining and entertaining, as opposed to restaurants.   Providing affordable meals options like quiches, breads, sandwiches, cakes and other treats for these occasions will also be a core focus in the year ahead.”

 “It is these aspects which our retail brands will continue to focus on – providing a memorable retail experience including exceptional service, relevant menu and quality products which represent value for money.”

Wake up with Wendy's

 

Customers across Australia are waking up with Wendy’s – thanks to the launch of a new breakfast menu.

The Wendy’s Brekky Menu* includes a range of delicious products, with choices for those looking to treat themselves and for those looking for a lighter breakfast. 

“We’re very excited with the launch of Wendy’s Brekky Menu and we’re expecting the new product range to deliver some great results for our franchisees,” Peter Lokan, Wendy’s General Manager of Marketing, said.

“Many of our customers during the breakfast period are shoppers and shopping centre staff, so our breakfast products are designed to be easy to eat when you’re on the run.” 

 

Wendy’s Brekky Menu offers a great selection of delicious products, including 99% fat free mixed berry or banana smoothies topped with crunchy muesli, 98% fat free frozen yoghurt with your choice of toppings, raisin toast with butter or hot toasted waffles served with cinnamon sugar.

The breakfast range also includes a delicious new Brekky Dog which has a cheesy bacon and real egg omelette and a tasty frank served on a fresh toasted roll with your choice of sauce.  

“The new Brekky Menu is available until 11.30am and it’s a great addition to our existing product range,” Mr Lokan said.

“The Brekky Menu will ensure our customers now have even more choice at Wendy’s and will allow our franchisees to continue to build on their morning trade.

“Whether customers are looking for a light snack or a tasty treat, the extensive Wendy’s product range means

our franchisees can cater for everyone.”

ADRENALINE-PUMPED CAREER OPPORTUNITY

A new career opportunity has arisen for entrepreneurs looking to work in a fun and heart-racing industry with an outdoor lifestyle.

Beware of Scammers

It seems unthinkable, but with one man already arrested, it appears that some people use disasters, such as the Victorian Bushfires, as an opportunity to take advantage of people's generosity.

The ACCC has released a statement warning people to be careful of scammers when donating monies to charitable causes.

How can you make a difference?

The Red Cross is accepting on-line donations through its website. 

You can also donate by visiting one of more than 4,000 Australia Post outlets across the country. 

Myer announced it would match dollar for dollar donations made to the Salvation Army through its stores nationally and the Commonwealth, National Australia, ANZ and Westpac banks have each pledged $1 million to fire victims, and the ANZ has also promised cash grants to customers who lost their homes. 

Visit your local Coles and Woolworths stores which are holding fundraising events. 

The Retail Food Group will donate a portion of its Valentine’s Day sales from more than 1,000 Donut King, Brumby’s Bakery, Michel’s Patisserie and bb’s cafe outlets across Australia, and together with a donation from RFG they hope to raise $100,000 for the Appeal.

 

Also offering a helping hand:

is offering free jumping castle hires to any Church or Community Groups across the country that are raising money to help support families affected by the Bush Fire disaster in Victoria.
