PoolWerx "cleans up" at Queensland Awards

KEEPING in line with its award-winning ways Australasia’s biggest pool and spa care network PoolWerx has again scooped the pool at the recent Queensland Swimming Pool and Spa Association (SPASA) awards taking out the coveted category of Queensland’s Best Pool Shop and runner up for Best Technician.

“Best Pool Shop” went to PoolWerx Townsville North while the runner-up award for “Best Technician” went to PoolWerx Burpengary franchisee Mark Waterman.

Co-owner and manager of PoolWerx Townsville North Terry Dwyer said it was exciting to be recognised as “the king of the pools” in the Sunshine State with their impressive yet simple mix of outstanding service and bright store presentation clinching victory against some tough competition.

“We’re absolutely wrapped at getting this award, we’re so proud of the team,” Mr Dwyer said.

“I think the key is letting each and every client know you understand their problem and then doing everything you can to make them comfortable and confident with your service.

Mr Dwyer said a major part of their business revolved around professionalism and high levels of service, but said staff and management adhered to the motto ‘enjoy your job and have fun while you get it done’.

“We really stick to our vision and values in the store and I think clients really appreciate it when we go the extra mile for them,” he said.

“It’s the same for salesmen and other businesses we work with. If you can’t appreciate our values then keep walking because they’re very important to us as a business and they’re a big part of the reason why we’ve won this award.”

PoolWerx CEO John O’Brien said the company had a great record at the state SPASA awards taking out “Best Pool Shop” in different states for the past six years running.

“The guys up there definitely deserve this award, the store looks amazing and they always go out of their way to satisfy the needs of clients,” he said.

“They’ve not only shown the strength of the brand, but have demonstrated how much stronger the brand becomes when you provide great service, in this case, award-winning service.

“I think they’ve got a great shot at the national awards and they’re only going to build their business even more from here on.”

Townsville North PoolWerx are now in the running for Australia’s Best Pool Shop for 2008 to be announced in August.

I'm ready to Jump!

When local Adelaide couple, Ian and Kellie Burge first thought about opening their own business they did their research. They looked at countless franchise systems and decided to go with something a little unusual…. Jumping Castles! That’s right! Rather than flipping hamburgers or washing dogs, Ian and Kellie have bought into one of the most successful franchise systems ever to hit Adelaide.

With 2 children of their own, Ian and Kellie are local school teachers at Seaton Park Primary School.

With their passion for kids learning and development they were excited to be able to provide a product that would assist in the fight against childhood obesity:

“It’s a key issue in our community right now! It excited me that I can be involved in my local community encouraging children under 12 to jump and have heaps of fun doing it. I’m definitely ready to jump right into it” says Ian.

Ian and Kellie own the franchise in Salisbury and they join the great team of existing franchisees in Adelaide. The castles themselves are made specifically for children up to the age of 12 only – so that means they are safer. They are small enough to fit in standard backyards and are a great idea if you are looking for children’s entertainment that encourages them to be active.

The castles all feature a safety bumper stop at the front of the castle (for toddlers) and fully inflatable walls instead of netted walls to allow kids to jump off the sides of the castle. There are heaps of great themes available in a range of unique designs including: traditional castles, castles with a slide, the patented moving mouth and a brand new bouncy floor that rises and falls!

Worldwide Online Printing to plant 10,000 trees

Green fingers are twitching at national franchise group Worldwide Online Printing, which has pledged to celebrate Planet Ark’s National Tree Day by planting 10,000 native trees.

The first 500 will be planted by Worldwide franchise support staff on Tree Day itself (Sunday July 27) – and then one new tree will be added to the Worldwide Forest whenever a customer of any of the group’s 88 franchised Centres places a print order on Worldwide Green paper.

CEO Mark Manderson said: “National Tree Day makes a huge contribution to reminding us how important it is to think about the environment, and this year we’re delighted to throw our weight behind the project by encouraging our 15,000 business customers to think Green.”

Called ‘Switch to Worldwide Green and Plant a Tree’, the crusade is promoted by in-store posters and promotional badges – and by education packs which spell out the importance of printing on recycled paper made from 100% post-consumer waste. Worldwide is also encouraging franchisees to present any customer who ‘goes Green’ with a certificate and stickers.

Many Worldwide franchisees are busy organising their own local Tree Day activities and community sponsorships.  In Queensland, Worldwide Fortitude Valley Manager Michelle Bowen said, “When we heard Worldwide was supporting our Green range with tree planting and getting behind National Tree Day initiatives, we were thrilled and immediately signed up to help plant trees with the Moggill Creek Catchment group at Huntington Park in Brookfield. Our shovels are ready!”

The team at Worldwide Eagle Street, including owner Simon Hall, are also going to get their hands dirty on Tree Day at Huntington Park. “We think it’s a great way to give back to the environment,” Simon said.  “Our team is really pleased to be a part of this initiative.” Simon is even planning on bringing his family along to help out and learn about conservation.

Worldwide Green is one of the few papers made entirely from post-consumer waste. It’s therefore much better for the environment than paper made from pre-consumer waste because the material has already been used as a consumer item, like a milk carton or box, before being recycled and reconstituted into

paper.

CEO Mark Manderson

According to Worldwide, one tonne of their recycled paper or cardboard saves, 17 trees, 1,700 litres of oil, 4000 kilowatts of electricity, 4 cubic metres of landfill space and 31,780 litres of water.

A.C.C.C. INSTITUTES PROCEEDINGS AGAINST SEAL-A-FRIDGE PTY LTD

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has commenced proceedings in the Federal Court in Brisbane against Seal-A-Fridge Pty Ltd and its director, Mr Nigel Rooney.

The ACCC alleges that Seal-A-Fridge engaged in unconscionable conduct towards its franchisees in contravention of section 51AC of the Trade Practices Act 1974.  The ACCC also alleges that Seal-A-Fridge failed to comply with the Franchising Code of Conduct, which amounts to a contravention of section 51AD of the Act.

The ACCC alleges that Mr Rooney was knowingly concerned in the contraventions.

Seal-A-Fridge is the franchisor of a mobile refrigeration seal replacement business which is run by franchisees located around Australia.

A directions hearing will be held in the Federal Court before Justice Logan today, 25 July 2008.
