Quick Shots ... Franchising News

According to The Wall Street Journal Online there are big dollars to be made in the pooch poo collecting business (yes, really!).  The interest in doggy doo doo is so big in fact that some operators are franchising this messy concept!  Apparently Americans would rather play with their pets then clean up after them … we wonder how long it will take for this concept to take off here in Australia.  Click here to read all about this story.

Pizza lovers craving good quality gourmet pizza will finally be satisfied thanks to the launch of Pizza Capers in Cleveland, Qld, the only gourmet take-away pizza in the area.  Located at 123 Bloomfield Street Cleveland, the opening marks the 25th store for the chain and the new franchisee Matt Woosnam said he recognized a gap in the local marketplace and seized the opportunity. Click here to request more information about the Pizza Capers opportunity.

Dunkin' Donuts has announced plans to open its first store in Shanghai, China.  They hope to follow this up with up to 100 more Chinese franchise locations over the next 10 years. Click here to read more about this story.

This week the ACCC obtained final orders by consent in the Federal Court in Brisbane against Duco Magic (Australia) Pty Ltd and its director, Mr Warwick Lindsay, for misleading prospective purchasers about the profitability and demand for Duco Magic business opportunities and services.  Click here for the full story from the ACCC website news centre.

Bold beagles beckon visitors to the Mortgage Choice stand at the Sydney Property Expo

A pack of brightly coloured, and occasionally barking, Mortgage Choice-adorned beagles walking the show floor of last weekend's Sydney Property Expo evoked plenty of curiosity among show visitors.

Forty eight beagles, kindly supplied by The Beagle Club of NSW, trotted through the show floor in their comfortable light cotton vests, accompanied by beagle lovers and curious onlookers alike. Choosey the beagle, Mortgage Choice’s long-time mascot, symbolises loan consultants’ ability to ‘sniff out’ property loans to meet the lifestyle and financial needs of its customers.

Mortgage Choice is the proud sponsor of The Beagle Club of NSW.

Mortgage Choice National Corporate Affairs Manager, Warren O’Rourke said this light-hearted and entertaining showstopper helped attract plenty of potential customers to the company’s expo stand. It was also an exciting day out for the four legged creatures and their admirers.

Free Guide Shares Tips to Amaze Customers

Customers have more power today than ever before – and it costs five times more to win a new one than it does to keep an existing one.

That’s the view of a new report called 25 Ways to Amaze Your Customers Without Flying a Banner Over the City, Sponsoring a Hot Air Balloon or Doing Anything That Requires a Chicken Suit; which was published this week by Worldwide Online Printing.

The latest edition in Worldwide’s Business Matters series, the guide lifts the lid on customer acquisition, conversion and retention trends – and points the way to more effective business development strategies with a round-up of no-nonsense best-practice tips and tricks.

Chapters entitled ‘Ditch the Mouse Mats’, ‘Start a Blog’ and ‘Quit Corporate Jargon’, pull no punches in their efforts to help make businesses amazing and chase a bigger share of the market – as well as of each customer’s wallet.

Publication of the guide follows news that Worldwide was again Australia’s fastest-growing design and print group for the fourth year in a row, according to BRW Magazine’s national franchising study. Many of the ideas featured in the guide are based on tried and tested practices drawn from the 12,000 business customers of Worldwide’s 88-strong national network of print communication Centres.

“Regular customers are often less price sensitive, more likely to buy additional products, and are inclined to recommend you to other customers – and it generally takes 40% less time and money to keep them happy”, reports the guide, which also warns of the changes to the rules brought about by the information age.

“It’s no longer enough to have the catchiest jingle, the glossiest brochure or the best-looking product. Instead of using just one supplier for a product or service, customers can use multiple suppliers in different countries, and select them based on factors ranging from their price point to a product review they read on someone’s blog”, it suggests. “The pressure’s on.”

Launched to celebrate Worldwide’s new website, the guide carries a cover price of $19.95 but is available free of charge for a limited period.
