New Opportunity:
Did you know that more than 80 percent of the Australian population visits a newsagency at least once a week?
Supanews founder, Adrian Gaskin, has been involved in newsagencies for the past 30 years and from his experience, passion and drive, Supanews has grown to over 40 stores across 4 states with an annual turnover in excess of $100 million.
The first Supanews store was opened in 1992 in Aspley, Queensland. Adrian took over an existing newsagency, increased its size, and range and converted it into the first 24hr newsagency in Australia. The success of this business allowed him to open more stores and he began to concentrate his efforts on the Brisbane CBD. More recently the chain has begun to concentrating on major shopping complexes and has opened stores in major, QLD, NSW and VIC shopping centres. A market leader, Supanews grew to become the largest privately owned newsagency chain in Australia.
In late 2004 Supanews broke new ground again by launching the first ever full business format franchise in the industry. Based on the strengths of the Supanews Model, the systems and procedures he had developed, the franchise model has been rapidly accepted as a strong business model. Supanews now has 18 franchisees and 43 stores and the chain will grow to 70 stores before the end of 2007.
In October 2006 a new joint venture partnership was formed with the A&R Whitcoulls Group, the leading Australasian retailer of books and related products from brands such as Angus & Robertson (170 stores in Australia), Whitcoull's (70 stores in New Zealand), Calendar Club and recently Borders.
