Print Group Spreads Holiday Cheer
to Camp Quality’s Kids

Print communications group Worldwide Online Printing has set out to raise $20,000 this holiday season to help bring some extra festive cheer to children living with cancer.

Worldwide will donate 10c from every digital Christmas Card it sells through its 82 design, writing and print centres to children’s charity Camp Quality (www.campquality.org.au)

The money raised will go towards helping Camp Quality run over 240 recreational camps and activities in 2008 to assist kids living with cancer and their families cope with the illness through fun and laughter.

Last year Worldwide raised $16,628, beating the previous year’s total by $3000. National Marketing Manager, Paul Sowerby, has even higher hopes this year:

“Since last year, Worldwides’ network has expanded – we now have 82 centres across the country. That means more people can get their hands on our personalised Christmas cards and know they’re doing their bit for charity. After all, it’s our customers who make this donation possible and in previous years their generosity has been amazing.  Hopefully, this year we’ll raise the total to $20,000 and help make an even bigger difference to the lives of Camp Quality’s kids.”

Camp Quality’s CEO, Simon Rountree, said, “We’re thrilled to have Worldwide’s support again this Christmas.  Last year the money raised from the Christmas card sales went to supporting one of Camp Quality’s family camps, which are a great way for families to spend time together in an optimistic and fun environment.  Christmas is a time for family, and it’s wonderful that Worldwide printing allow us to provide more hope and happiness to our Camp Quality families through the sales of Christmas cards.

“Some of the funds from donations in 2007 will go towards our two new pilot programs in 2008,” added  Mr Rountree. “The first is a program based on our existing program model, but instead supports the increasing group of children in our society living with parents who have cancer.  The second is to create a mentoring program that connects parents of newly diagnosed children with the parent of a child who has survived cancer.”

Poolwerx record growth continues

PoolWerx opens 50th retail store and 250th franchise

Australian owned PoolWerx, already the world’s largest pool and spa maintenance organisation, is opening its 50th retail hub, which is the 250th PoolWerx franchise.

PoolWerx has been recognised (by BRW Magazine) as being among the fastest growing franchises in the nation for the past 5 years.

Poolwerx CEO John O'Brien says: “The record growth is due to a number of factors.  We invest heavily in training our people, and pool owners are becoming increasingly aware of the health dangers with having a poorly maintained pool.  And given water restrictions are so wide-spread, water savings are also a big driver of demand for our professional services”.

PoolWerx has already expanded into New Zealand, and is fielding international inquiry from the USA and Europe.

PoolWerx was listed this year as among the fastest growing franchise companies in Australia by BRW magazine.

PoolWerx has won multiple awards including:
- Franchise Council of Australia – Best Franchise System (outright) 2004
- Franchise Council of Australia –Franchisees of the Year 2001, 2002
- Franchise Council of Australia – Best Service Franchise System 2002
- Most Respected Australian Service Franchise – Deloittes 2005
- The Swimming Pools and Spas Association of Australia – Best Pool Stores 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and Best Technicians – 2002, 2004, 2006.

O’Brien re-elected as FCA Chairman
voting rights for franchisee rep ratified

PoolWerx Corporation’s CEO John O’Brien has been re-elected as the Franchise Council of Australia (FCA) Chairman for his second term.

O’Brien said he was delighted to accept the trust of the FCA members and the backing of the FCA Board.

We live in interesting times with several important challenges ahead the for the franchise sector.

“The South Australian and West Australian Governments recently announced State inquiries into franchising. In addition, the Small Business Minister in-waiting has announced a review of the ‘in good faith’ provisions of the Franchising Code of Conduct. And with a rare clean sweep of Labor Governments, we will now see the beginning of the roll-back of WorkChoices,” O’Brien said.

“As the peak Australian franchise representative body, we must renew our representation to Government at a more consistent level across all fronts to ensure our voice is heard on these and other pressing issues facing our $128 billion sector.

“While the FCA Board remains stable, we understand the importance of renewal and inclusiveness. This is reflected in the appointment of Tony Melhem (Franchisee Forum representative, Gloria Jean’s Coffees), Rod Wakefield (The Coffee Club) and Diana Williams (Women in Franchising Forum representative, Fernwood Women’s Health Clubs) to the FCA Board last week.

“The FCA Board also ratified several new initiatives including giving the Franchisee Forum representative full voting rights. We also voted for FCA Board member and Victorian Chapter President (Franchise Alliance) Phil Blain to be the Chair of the Service Provider Forum. This newly formed forum will ensure there is high level representation for franchise sector suppliers. With a strong background in education, The Coffee Club CEO Rod Wakefield was also voted in as the inaugural FCA Academy Chairman,” O’Brien said.

George Yammouni (BathroomWerx) was also re-elected as Deputy Chair and Finance Director for another term.
