Community involvement, ongoing promotion and happy staff are key to store's success

AUTOBARN Tweed Heads continues as the perfect ‘one stop shop’ for any vehicle owner whether they wish to service their car, improve it or even make repairs.

Opened in November 2001, Autobarn Tweed Heads is a member of Australia’s largest franchise retailer of automotive spare parts and accessories.

Owned and operated by the Armbruster family, the store employs five full-time and two casual staff with a wide cross section of the community represented by the client base.

One of the store’s strengths has been its stable staff roster, with internal promotion occurring whenever possible.

It is a loyal supporter of the community too, with a number of groups supported by Autobarn Tweed Heads.

The South Tweed Bowls Club (where the store is promoted on in-house television), Daily News – News in Education, Smiley Tots children’s center, Club Banora’s Twilight Bowls for Kids in Need, Bilambil Primary School, Partners of Veterans, and Camp Quality are among the many groups the store supports.

Discounts are also made available to seniors, Kingscliffe TAFE students and Breakers Club members, while online club members receive regular discount offers via the store’s website.

To ensure the store is continuing to deliver prompt and efficient service, customer numbers are monitored daily – and then compared to previous periods and other stories to ensure the Tweed Heads store continues to grow and cater for the customer.

Ongoing promotion is important and the store distributes over 45,000 catalogues six times a year and backs it up with advertising on local radio, television and newspapers.

The store’s modern premises at Homemart on Tweed in Minjungbal Drive, Tweed Heads South, make shopping at Autobarn a breeze and the experienced staff are always happy to assist above and beyond the call of duty.
Some products, such as new wiper blades, are fitted free of charge, making Autobarn Tweed Heads the perfect automotive store.

bb's cafe brews up new-look in Greensborough Plaza

bb’s cafe in Greensborough Plaza will receive a flashy facelift this month, after almost 15 years of serving more than 850,000 cups of coffees to local shoppers.

Builders will work repainting, restocking and revamping the popular coffee shop.

bb’s cafe Greensborough owner Michael Parnell said the cafe’s new design would provide shoppers with the perfect place to relax and recharge.

“Since our opening in 1993, bb’s cafe Greensborough has made more than 850,000 coffees for local shoppers, using more than three tones of coffee beans just to keep up with the demand!”

“We still have customers from our very first day of operation come in for their coffee and muffin. One particular customer comes in nearly everyday for his long black. As he makes his way to his favourite table, our barista is already onto his usual order.”

Mr Parnell said although owning a busy coffee shop was hard work it was very rewarding.

“I love knowing everyone in the community and their preferred coffees! Although, I must admit I think my last holiday over a week must have been 10 years ago,” he said.

“I am lucky to have such great hardworking staff, which includes my two daughters, and am very grateful for the many loyal customers we have.”

There are more than 46 bb’s cafes operating across Australia, employing over 460 staff and serving over 3.3 million cups of coffee a year.

The bb's franchise network is owned and managed by Retail Food Group (RFG), a leading Australian retail food brand manager and franchisor. RFG is the franchisor and intellectual property owner of the Donut King, bb’s café, Brumby’s and Michel’s Patisseries systems.

Raising money for RFDS makes this franchise a 'cut' above the rest!

Just CutsTM stylists at this year’s Cut-A-Rama hair styling extravaganza in Mudgee shaved, snipped and sprayed their way through a record number of participants to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service on the eve of the annual Royal Flying Doctor Outback Car Trek.

Grant Denyer was the MC for the evening “It was an amazing night – we had over 350 people attend; locals, Sydney-siders, Queenslanders and people from as far away as New Zealand. With the help of Just Cuts TM stylists we raised $8,890, a record amount. This year was Just Cuts’ TM tenth Cut-A-Rama event, which coincides perfectly with the 80th anniversary of the Royal Flying Doctor Service,” says Denyer.

Cut-A-Rama is the kick off event to the Royal Flying Doctor Outback Car Trek. The trek commenced at 6am Sunday morning and saw drivers travel from Mudgee to Byrock then onto the Queensland town of Cunnamulla. Trekkers are now on their way to Isisford and will finish up at Fraser Island this Saturday, 7 June.

“The support that we had on the night was phenomenal. We had a grandma shave her head for $1,200 and another well-known businessman put up $1000 dollars not to have his moustache shaved, his brother then paid another $1000 to make sure that it was shaved off! Hats off to the locals and supporters of the Royal Flying Doctor Service – especially those that had their head cut in crazy styles by Just CutsTM hairdressers,” says Denis McFadden, founder and CEO of Just CutsTM.

Stylists from Just CutsTM salons all around Australia donated their time, flying from Melbourne and Sydney.

“I’ve had to use the Royal Flying Doctor service twice in my life, so it was the least I could do. Meeting Grant Denyer was also a definite highlight,” says Anita Smith owner of Just CutsTM Geelong, Waurn Ponds & Watergardens. Cathy Kinlay of Just CutsTM Plumpton says “Cut-A-Rama was definitely the highlight of my working career to date.”

Staff at The Waratah Hotel certainly had their work cut out for them, “It was an absolutely crazy night, I don’t think The Waratah has ever seen such a busy night. The Royal Flying Doctor Service is a charity which is especially important to Aussies, particularly those based in country towns such as Mudgee. Everyone was in a really generous mood, so that helped to raise a lot of money as well,” says Catherine Martin, a bartender at The Waratah Hotel.

Next year will see the 20th anniversary of the Royal Flying Doctor Outback Car Trek.

Staffing shortages effect Queensland businesses

It has been reported this week that Queensland fast food outlets are turning their attention overseas in their quest to fill positions.  Queensland outlets faced with staff shortages are turning to controversial Section 457 Visas to recruit overseas workers. Both KFC and McDonald's have used the visas to combat a shortage of workers caused by the state's resources boom.

Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said that with the lowest unemployment rate in decades, the restaurants were not the only Queensland businesses finding it hard to get labour.
