New Bull in Town
Bucking Bull celebrated the opening of its 32nd store at Garden City Booragoon earlier this month, with customers flocking to try out Australia’s Favourite Roast and Grill restaurant.
The new store at Garden City is the latest store opening for Bucking Bull, and will bring the number of outlets in Western Australia to 10.
Originally founded in Western Australia in 1999, Bucking Bull has always had a strong customer base in the region, and the store’s first week of sales has reflected this.
Master Franchisee, Nigel Reid believes the brand has the right formula to give the big guys a run for their money.
“Customer’s tastes and expectations are changing when it comes to food. They want food that’s nutritious and we serve it,” Reid said.
Continuing to buck the trend in food courts around Australia, Bucking Bull has snubbed tasteless fast food, instead offering customers a unique home-style traditional menu.
“We provide a completely different product mix in the Food Court here, with a menu that has really enticed customers to give it a try.”
The ongoing success of Bucking Bull is due to the brand’s ability to deliver a casual dining experience that meets the continually shifting tastes and rising expectations of today’s consumers.
“When a customer looks to buy a product, they want to know it will deliver on its promises and will often select a brand they feel they can trust. That’s us,” he said
Garden City’s Marketing Manager, Clare Riley is excited to welcome a traditional Roast & Grill offering to the Shopping Centre.
"We are delighted to welcome Bucking Bull to Garden City and know that our shoppers will love the delicious menu on offer," she said.
Bucking Bull is part of the Aktiv Brands Group, along with se7en Gourmet Takeaway, Skewerz and The Kebab Co.

The Aktiv group Releases NEW Bucking Bull Concept Store in NSW
Bucking Bull – Australia’s Favourite Roast & Grill – unveiled their stunning new concept store at Charlestown Square Shopping Centre in New South Wales, late last week.
The latest addition to the 10 year old franchise is the first of its kind for Bucking Bull. The new concept store is the brand’s first venture into a back of house food court model, with many significant alterations to the store design and operational set-up.
For the first time, Bucking Bull’s traditional hot food display has been removed from the front counter at the new Charlestown Square store. Bucking Bull’s Managing Director, Dean Vella, says, “In previous food court models, our stores had a full front of house visual food display. However, we felt that trends had changed and operationally we could now deliver to the customer a fresher, hotter, better presented and importantly – faster – food option from our new back of house concept store.”
“One of the greatest positives of our new Bucking Bull concept store is better control of wastage through eliminating the deterioration of displayed product, as well as improving portion control systems without customer scrutiny. This assists in achieving a greater gross profit margin”, says Dean.
“In terms of labour, instead of requiring each staff member to be trained in and capable of food handling, front counter staff are now more customer focused in entering orders into the point of sale system which are then prepared by qualified kitchen staff. This assists in reducing the average staff costs through the required labour skill mix.”
Bucking Bull’s brand elements remain unaltered in its new format at Charlestown Square; however the store raises the bar for design and functionality. Bucking Bull’s home-style menu is screened across five LCD monitors; enticing customers will displays of traditional roast meals, all day hot breakfasts, real burgers, subs and sandwiches, spuds, snacks, coffee and more.
As the Aktiv group continue to invest more time and energy into the evolution of their successful franchise systems, their positioning in the competitive fast food marketplace is growing strong. Aktiv group Managing Director, Stuart Beechen, says, “It is becoming increasingly important to have a strong retail presence not only through store design attributes, but also throughout the entire purchasing experience. As a fast food retailer, we focus on the primary two variables within our business – food costs and labour control in developing our franchise models”

nov. 2010 - The Kebab Co. joins the Aktiv franchise group
The Aktiv group, owners of the popular Bucking Bull Roast & Grill franchise and the se7en Gourmet Takeaway concept, announces the acquisition of Western Australian brand The Kebab Co., which comprises 10 franchised stores, all located in major shopping centres in WA. The Aktiv group plans to merge The Kebab Co. with its new franchised brand, Skewerz Kebabz, which most of the existing Kebab Co. stores will be converted and rebranded to by mid 2011. Aktiv group’s CEO and Managing Director, Stuart Beechen, said “The acquisition provides additional opportunities for the Aktiv group and the franchisees of each system by allowing for the integration of products, collaborative marketing initiatives, co-branding, supply economies and leveraging of the Aktiv franchise management systems. It boosts the number of food franchise systems under the Aktiv group to three; all developed in Australia over the past 12 years and focused primarily on food courts in major shopping centres. We are always on the lookout for opportunities to add value in the retail fast food sector.
Skewerz Kebabz is another exciting and unique brand which we’ve invested a lot of time and resources in and we believe it has great potential.” The first store in the Skewerz Kebabz chain in Western Australia opened in Centro Galleria Shopping Centre, Morley this week. Basil Bresgi (Franchise Owner of both Bucking Bull and The Kebab Co. in the Centro Galleria Shopping Centre) and Billy Preston (Franchise Owner of The Kebab Co. in the Midland Gate Shopping Centre) have been appointed the Master Franchisees in Western Australia for both The Kebab Co. and Skewerz Kebabz. According to Basil, “The opportunity for The Kebab Co. to join the Aktiv group was an easy choice considering the franchise support, marketing and group purchasing benefits provided to me as a Bucking Bull franchisee over the past 10 years. I can feel confident in knowing the same level of support and professionalism will be provided to the Skewerz Kebabz franchisees and me, as Master Franchisee”.
This latest Aktiv group acquisition pushes total store numbers for the group to 44 across Australia.
